Centre Consul

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there are different types of centre consul?

I've a 73 V8 Auto and the small letterbox type hole above the radio seems to be missing a piece at the rear, the end result being that stuff ends up falling down and behind, never to be seen again!

I've seen a couple of replacement centre consuls on ebay, some seem to have this slot in plastic, others in a board, cardboard, millboard or something.

Any suggestions would be grateful.

Steve :D :D

The base, sides and back of the slot should be solid plastic, the top/roof of the slot is covered by a piece of millboard, having spring clips at the back edge and held up at the front with small plastic rivets.

Back in the day, when these were all the rage

I fitted one in that slot above the radio, and IIRC I had to cut the back out to get it in there.

Me still.... the music is pretty important...

Radiomobile doesn't work for me. Always been my first car improvement....

That and a suitable cassette deck with 4 Pioneer 9 inch speakers running ELO, Led Zep, Floyd et al was in my Mini.
If I ran out of gas, all I had to do was turn up the volume, open the doors and it ran on sound alone..... :D

To continue our little trip down memory lane, (and off topic)....

I had.

And a very nice system it was too, probably the reason I've got tinnitus......

I have all of it apart from the rear speakers, which I sold for some stupid reason, but if I can get another pair of those it's all going into my current 3500S when I get around to it.

Hi, I also had a GE, but I put mine underneath the player in place of the speaker. Plenty of room
in there and away from prying eyes with the grille in place. I used to leave the screws out and
removed one of the top bars in the grille and used a finger to pull it out to adjust it.

Found these on 'The Bay' Harvey:

Pioneer Speakers :D

What ugly speakers  I can see why you sold them Harvey! On the other hand Pioneer did make some spectacular sounding speakers some of which I was lucky enough to obtain back in the day (and still have) such as the TS-X11 3 way aluminium housed box speakers which saw far more duty time on my home stereo rather than the car as they easily eclipsed my high end component stereo home speakers, if you ever see these for sale snap them up! simply stunning sounding.
