Cerakote Manifolds

Hi

Although I probably should have asked BEFORE getting the work done, anyone any experience with high temp Cerakote on the original manifolds? I am about to find out, although as I will drive so few miles that it's unlikely to be a real test. But I can say that they came out very nicely in "Titanium". Quite an improvement actually, so I recommend it so far....................

Hi, ISTR that someone on here had it done, although i think it was a tubular manifold. I keep thinking it was @quattro ?

Yep, it was me:)

Sparky's PO had fitted some thin walled stainless tubular manifolds giving me some serious under bonnet heat problems. I tried wrapping the manis and that did help but it didn't look too good, and got tatty very quickly. I looked into ceramic coating and thought it may be the answer, although rather expensive. There were other problems when I got the car, including the souped up engine connected straight to the original Auto exhaust and the Y piece that had been made up for the new manis was too close to the tunnel on both sides giving you nice warm toasty feet - great in the winter, summer sweaty feet not so good.

So I emptied my wallet and had it done in a nice matt black

Turns out matt black is actually brown for some reason, but never mind.

I had the manis done inside and out, and had a new Y piece made and coated on the outside.

It cured the heat problem instantly, and cool feet were had by all :)

They did claim it would help with engine power as it kept the gasses hotter and therefore the gas speed didn't drop.

Hi

I did the Y pipe too. The little pipes are for the AED and one of the problems with the AED is too much cooling between the manifold heater and the AED so it came from the factory with some insulating wrapping. That looks super tatty, so maybe the coating will help with the AED that I have inexplicably decided to keep.......

A mate does it to all his motorcycle rebuilds and swears by it. Obviously, on a bike it will be internal coating only, though.
He has also done some pistons, but I don't have feedback on them.

Perhaps a pair of sandals would have been cheaper. ;)
