Changes to the use of number plates.

Hi, Just seen this elsewhere, that the use of B&W number plates on vehicles first registered after Jan1 1980 is now not allowed. This shouldn't affect the majority of us but will anyone with later classics. This comes on the back of changing legislation in the use of the euro symbol on plates from Sept 2021. There's speculation the style of plates (raised letters) could also be affected.

Changes to Black & Silver Number Plates from 01.01.2021

Hi, I'm of the same opinion but there are quite a lot of people who insist on fitting them. I'm not sure whether it's ignorance of the reason or they're just snubbing their nose at authority. However I think the government haven't helped by not enforcing it like they did in the past.

It's because they believe that speed camera cannot read black/silver plates, which was true a decade ago - they had issues with them - but they haven't had problems reading them in years.

Personal choice but I really don't get it. They died out quite quickly even ahead of 73. I think reflectives first became legal in 1968. Black plates just look daft of P-reg car.

wow really that early? I remember after G/H they were very rare. we have to think in context right. Who wanted to make their car look older back then?

Our old girl had black ones on when we got it. The original dealer reflective ones were in the boot, with the full size rear plate. I think they look better and break up the back of our dark green car. Black and silver ones now have pride of place in the boot.
