Charging problem

Re-reading your original posting, you have changed an 11AC for an ACR, not the other way around, so that wouldn't be a retrograde step if that is the case. But if you have done that, how have you modified the wiring to accept the new alternator?

(managed to work out where the #'s are)
#18 my original alternator was the ACR18
.New one 11AC
Apparently no wiring modification was needed, only that the separate small wire was taped up

Are you sure you have changed from an 18ACR to a 11AC. The 11AC needs a lot of wiring modifications and extra parts such as a 4TR control unit , field isolating relay etc., to make it work?
From your previous posts I think it is the other way round. and is your ignition waring light working when you switch on without starting the engine.

Following on from roverp480, the brackets that retain each alternator are also distinct.
Do post some photos please if you have the opportunity.

Ron.

sorry folks, another one of my better days, why I put 11AC? must have had a brain storm.
anyway, my new all singing all dancing one from West Lancs Autos, WA00101? is of course what we are looking for, just plug in original wires less ign wire, Hey presto. (might still be wrong going on my present plights)
Something to read while it is raining though
Regards

Received my new alternator back from vender, assured it was OK.
Fitted with a straight swap of wires, (three in the plug) forth wire tapped of.
Start engine, fast tick over, switch on lights, amp meter not showing a charge.
Operate flash switch at same revs, alternator screams?
I have removed the dash board, and at the back, roughly behind the clock is I assume the ammeter rectifier. (not sure if that is the correct term). Do they give any problems at all?
Is it the rectifier that causes the alternator to scream? (overload)
According to my basic wiring diagram the two main wires from the alternator to the rectifier are brown, mine are brown with white stripe, Do I have a wire problem?
Thanks
Brian
