'Correct' positioning of fog lights

As I've been looking around at the various different types of P6 shown in numerous photographs, I've noticed that some Series 2 cars have their foglights mounted inboard of the bumper overriders and some have them mounted outboards.

Does anyone know what the difinitive 'correct' positioning of the bumper overriders and foglights are, or is it just personal preference?

cheers

Hello,

I've asked this question to myself in the past concerning my 1974 3500. My approach was to consult period brochures and James Taylor's book. Looking at all the pics there suggests that at least on V8 cars the fog/spotlights seem to have been positioned outboards the overriders by default. That's how I then fitted mine. I ordered the proper mounting brackets from JRW to do it, worked well and looks sufficiently genuine.

Hope this helps,
Klaus

As front fogs are not part of the (UK) MOT Test then, as long as they're not dazzling oncoming drivers, very much personal preference I guess.

I think they look better outboard...here's mine:

Personal preference, I suppose, but I prefer them 'outboard' too;
Here's my parts donor car back in the summer of 2003, sans overriders.

Looks even better with the bumper horns on, and hung with the right brackets, but they're a doddle to duplicate. If I dig mine out this weekend I'll take a couple of snapshots and dimensions.
Anybody want to swap two pairs of black-backed Lucas Square Eight foglamps with the covers for one good pair of chrome-backed ones as fitted to Rollers in the seventies and eighties? Also got a pair of French yellow fogamp lenses if anybody needs some. Sorry to hijack this thread.
