Have been measuring my crank (3.9 38D disco2 engine), and am a bit mystified by the results. Engine came to me cheaply, no accessories, but almost complete injection set up. Have almost new Mitutoyo mikes in 1-2" (in mm) and 2-3". Have run these twice now, consistent results. Have polished the journals with 800-1200-1500 grit wet-n-dry paper. The mains all come up dead on 2.30", measured in 2 planes. The big ends are all between 50.80 and 50.815mm(this is 2.0005"). There were visible scratches on No1 big end shell, but the marks on the journal polished out easily.
