Danger! 'Up & Over' Garage Doors can seriously harm your paintwork!

If you stow your pride and joy in a garage which has an 'Up & Over' door, make certain the counterweights are set up properly, and perhaps add some spongy foam or soft rubber or similar to the lower door edge for protection. 'Cos if you aren't wary, and the door decides to drop down whilst you're reversing in, it'll make a wicked scrape in your paintwork. Ask me how I know.

On a similar note, if you have a garden umbrella for your garden table and you wish to put it away for the winter, don't lean it against the up and over door. And if you do, remember that you have done so prior to entering the garage via the up and over door.

Hey Richard. Ever see the movie Goodfellas? You're a funny guy. :(:p

Nope, I must give it a go.

I have a dent in my bootlid from the brolly. It is rather annoying when you have spent so much time and effort.

Great movie. I'm just feeling a little bit like the Joe Pesci character at the moment. Especially during the 'funny guy' scene.
For a moment I envisaged you had kebab-skewered yourself on the brolly walking into your garage. Glad it was 'only' your bootlid that was injured. I'm consoling myself with the notion that 'twas 'only' my car that got damaged, and nobody actually got decapitated.

Sorry to hear.
Interesting dilemma whether to claim on House or Car insurance. I guess it will be the one with the lower excess and consequent premium cost penalty.
Obviously replicating the paint quality will require a seasoned expert. (unless of course you always wanted a sunroof.)
