hey guys i am going to start soon taken on the job to take out the old dash of my p6 and swap it for the series 2 dash which i think its a much better dash then the series 1 wot do u guys think of the series 1 dash to be honest i dont like it at all find it boaring to look at as the series 2 is so much nicer to look at and its got everything on there that u need

Hi
I have gone the other way by changing a S2 dash to S1, and that was straight forward. I like the look of the old dash.

I love the early dash with the extra rev counter pod 8) Mine has the late one though and I wont be changing it.
It does pay to have the extra info though IMO :)

I'm also partial to the S1 dash, for the stylish old-school looks. S2 ones look a bit more technical in my opinion. And with chrisyork's addition of P5 gauges next to the tacho pod, the chrome styling makes it all look pretty cool...

Agree on both points. I love the early dash.. but I'll be keeping my s2 in the NADA car. :)

yea i know wot u all guys mean but i have got fed up with the old dash and to be honest i find it boaring to look at and with the s2 its got everything u need from a dash and trying to find a tacho pod for the v8 is hard plus i would have to get a oil thing as well as i said the s2 is got everthing on there so wont be long and that will be coming out

Really? Hard to find a tacho pod? I've sold one to Greece in the last month, and have a second spare in my shed.. Fairly easy to find if you dig around a little.

You'll have a lot of wiring to sort out before you get everything up and running on the s2 dash. It's not that easy a swap.

I totally agree, I've done it before but there is a lot of wiring to chop, trace and splice. It really isn't a straightforward swap. You will need to remove the parcel tray and drill a hole in it for the mounting plate that is rivetted to the dash top too. Besides, I thought you were sick of your car looking like a series 2? And don't you already have a tacho pod?

The series 2 dash is superb but the series 1 dash really suits the '60s style of the car. Keep it original and buy a series 2 to keep it company! :D

yea yr all right there i do have a tacho pod but its for the 2000 but there again yea i know it will do the job yea i am trying to get the out side looking like a series 1 but to be honest i have never like the dash in it when i dad had it many years ago he change it to the series 2 dash to make it look like a nada but never finshed it so all the wires are behind the dash ready yea i know its not a easy swap over but to be honest i was thinking of getting another p6 3500s but i was going to be stuck with to v8 so i thought its best to make mine how i want it to look like i am still going to keep the switchs and the rest but just change over the dash as it got everything i need on the v8 people say its not orginal but there again wot is on mine i got the front and the back looking like a series 1 and all i need to do is just sort out the side at the end of the year then it will be back to the series 1 the other thing my speedo is out 25mph and its easy to get a series 2 speedo redon to take on the 5 speed box

I assume you are thinking of developing something like an RHD version of the Federal 3500S.

It's feasible - but potentially awkward and time consuming; getting new wires in and making them look tidy meansa certain amount of dismantling under the dash. Speedo cables and so on will be taken need to be taken care of with the 5-speed conversion I assume, so the major issue will be the wiring.

The S1 dash used warning lights for many functions whereas you will need to find and install sensors and wiring for the oil pressure and engine temp gauges among other things. The phyical installation is if i remeber comparitavely straightforward - a hole or two will need drilling and that's about it.

It would pay to get the wiring diagrams for S1 and S2 V8s and trace out what you need to change - and then figure out how many wires and where you are going to run them. It would be very easy to bodge this, and end up with unreliable gauges and rat's nest under the dash and in the engine bay

hi,
if i remember rightly there is for sale on ebay at the moment a wiring loom for a 3500 can't remember what it said or which series. worth doing a search and seeing if it is the right one for what you want.

yea well i got all the wires from the s2 dash which i kept when i scrapped my last s2 v8 so as you said got to fine out what wires are what then run them to the car wires yea i know its not going to be fast job to do but i think it will be worth it in the long run yea well all the stripes are coming off my p6 this year and get it looking like a series 1 from the out side and just change the dash over i am still going to keep all the s1 switchs as i do love them on the s1 car

hey guys i am now decided i am going to keep with the old dash in it now as i cant be bothered in changing it over and want to try and keep it looking like a series 1 thanks guys for changing my mine keep it old school
