dash top

Hi there seems like im pulling things apart rather than putting back together lol
Im going to pull the top dash cover out and was wondering if i have to remove the windscreen?
i cant see why i cant unbolt it and withdraw from the inside of the car?
do i need to remove the instrument cluster too?
The reason is moths and bugs seem be be lodged against the windscreen and top of the dash making it look
unsightly and i cant seem to get at them so removing the top dash will allow me to clean it.
Thanks all

From the workshop manual for my car (3500S). Not sure which model you have though, or if it would be different:

The main thing is to remove the A pillar trims, then undo the nuts under the dashboard top & pull it towards you.

The only difficult thing is reconnecting the speedo cable as you need to remove the instrument panel which is necessary to reach the last screw between the top and the front rail. The rest is straightforward.

If you have the circular instrument panel be careful not to damage the knobs which reset the trip counter and dim the panel illumination.

Take your time and don't drop any fixings, I usually tape them back into position in order with paper masking tape. I dismantled a circular instrument dash to go in my Series 1. It took no time at all.

I've only once disconnected a speedo cable and it took me two hours of extreme discomfort to reconnect it to the angle drive again. There probably is a easy way which I'm not smart enough to figure out...

You don't necessarily need to disconnect the panel wiring if you can move it forward enough to get a spanner in the space (but this is easy with the circular instruments as there are basically only 2 multiconnectors) but it won't move much/at all with the speedo cable connected.

hi again i have removed the dash with no issues. Window is out to be replaced.
Have flattened the bulging warped parcel shaft with Debbies clothes iron lol.
hope it stays that way. Seems like the whole dash has been attacked before as loose nuts and trim need looking at.
Makes me wonder why though?
Come to a standstill as the metal dash lugs welded to the pillars have broken and ill have to get someone out to weld them again as the car is not driveable.

Hi those broken dash mounts are quite common, I've had to weld a few.
No sure if it's caused by slamming of glove box lids over many years.
Clive.
