Probably for a Metro, rather than a P6.

That mat is not from a P6/P6B. The shape is incorrect, as the long length that fits in front of the instruments is missing.

Were they an option or do they just go missing over time?

Standard, and I have never seen one with out it. When in place they look like a permanent fixture though they can be easily removed
