Door glass - fitting to runners

I've recently started to refurb the second set of prototype electric windows - one set is on 102FJJ, the other on JXC822D.

The problem with the set on 102 is that the glass it mismatched.

I've removed the mismatched glass from the runners and cleaned them up, but not sure how to secure the replacement glass back into the runners..

Any ideas?

As I'm sure you know they have a rubber between the glass and the channel, wrapped round the bottom of the glass which is a tight fit in the channel, and that's all that holds it in place. You need to mark the glass at the ends of the channel so it goes into the correct position, and then get new rubbers. (I don't know if the Rover suppliers have them, but I know the Triumph TR range use them ). Then you need to be able to hold the channel upright, get someone else to stretch the rubber to make it as long as they can while holding it flat over the channel centrally. They should have far in excess of the length of the channel of rubber sticking out each end, then the glass needs to be pushed down over the stretched rubber, and into the channel. A rubber mallet can help with this. Then once the glass is right into the channel. release the ends of the rubber, and as it shortens it will get thicker along its length and hold the glass in place. Dont cut the ends of the rubber off until it has had a good length of time to stand as it's an ongoing process.
And finally, don't blame me if the glass shatters..... I've never had it happen, but I'm sure it's possible.

Hmm. I've always used this bedding tape, which is an improved product over the orginal material, which you brushed with a little oil to make is swell.

I'm sure this is the same type of material Rover used, they call it a glazing strip & it came bulk.
