Any members out there going to a drive it day tomorrow?
Our local organiser Tony bunting has arranged a get together at Bicester heritage centre, a ex WW2 bomber base.

Well I took mine out for a blast - not that I need a 'Drive It' day to do that, but thought I would join in the spirit of it. And here is the picture to prove it. Drove from my home in Cheshire to Monsall Head in Derbyshire in beautiful weather. Only saw two other classics out though - an MGB roadster, and a 1970s Corvette Stingray.IMG_0320 (Medium).JPG

No P6 for Drive It Day this year! Rusty 220Sli had to stand in. Spent the whole day looking at the back bumper of this though.

Poor 220 had to stay behind bars encase he infected any of the others with his rust

Mind you some of them were in extreme quarantine!

For the first time ever I was actually out and about on drive it day in mine. Drove approximately 80 miles, didn't see another classic!

I used both of mine - taking daughter to work in the P6 then carrying my kayak to the beach in my Series Land Rover. I didn't see any other classics.

There were plenty at Bicester - 17 or 18 P6s plus other Rovers. And lots of other classics in the stonking great queue to get in.
Also dozens and dozens of wierdly coloured modern BMW and Porsche with loud drivers talking strange numerical codes!
However, the star for me was an amazingly ratty Hispano Suiza - first I've ever seen outside an exhibition or museum!

I happened to be driving 'Bop' on Drive it Day & saw a number of other classics. Probably 1 in 8 acknowledged me....

I do get the feeling that most "must own a classic" people are actually not interested in classics per se. That's why you need a Drive it Day I suppose, or those cars would never be out!

I've said it before, but it's mostly the drivers of stereotypical classics (MGB, E-type, Minor) that this applies to. However, I appreciate not all of those drivers are the same - we had great fun with an MGB so I am one of them!

Also, of course it's each to their own. If they enjoy their cars, then that's what they are for...

I got a wave from the guy in the Corvette - but the guy in the MGB just sailed past without acknowledgement.
However, my daughter used to have an MG BGT and she used to wave at everyone!
