Electric P6e

Ive sold the farm and moving into a sedentary lifestyle village by the coast.
Im looking for something to do.
Ive been "thinking" along the line of buying an electric car as our daily driver which is currently a Pug 3008.
Then theres - do I rearrange a perfect Rover P6b I have at the moment that done me well for 45yrs.
Eg a Tesla 3 is about $65k NZ . Nissan Leaf -$25k NZ.
Lots of wriggle room there and more options as to manufactures.
Convert my P6b to sparks by a professional -$65k nz
Drop a Leaf power plant into "a donor" P6- $10k out of a donor Leaf. By myself as a hobby.
First thing I would buy - a Rover V8 exhaust note ap. to be played through twin rear pipes.
Would I miss the oil puddles on the floor , stocks of different oils and filters, fumes and winter cold starts?
Just thinking out loud
Gerald

Sort of - bought her new in 72 but sold it and bought her back . Must work out my exact ownership one day

You would be better off to buy a 2nd P6 and convert it or just by a Tesla or other equivalent electric.
I like you have had my P6 far too long :D and like you sold it at one point but had to buy it back after realising my stupidity.

I'm with this opinion, personally.
Take a look at this for an idea. It will be a lot easier today because tech has progressed a long way since then.

Indeed, converting a P6 might sound tempting, but don't do it on your current car. You should get a second one for that purpose and the costs of purchase would be a fraction of the conversion costs anyway.
You wouldn't like to live without the "real thing"!

What the hell is the point of an electric P6? Surely the whole point of a classic car is the engine, how it sounds, how it drives. To convert a beautiful P6 into what is essentially an overblown milk float would be sacrilege in my opinion.

Im of the opinion that to pull my pristine original P6b apart and insert a sparkie thing , would be in Trumps words 'Unpatriotic".
I would probably go with another good base unit P6 and start pulling stuff.
There are still good straight P6 cars in NZ that are in great nick body wise. Its our temperate climate.
Just got to go shopping for the right one.
Mmmm two P6
So I will now be looking for house with lots of garage space.
Mrs Miller is not going to be happy.

You're missing my point. It's not about how fast it goes. It is the whole V8 classic sound and experience and the joy of driving something from your past. Surely if you want something that goes like a rocket and makes little or no sound at all, buy a modern car!

Only 45? Had ours for 47 (not trying to one-up)
Met some-one who was converting a Volvo 240 Wagon to electrics about 9 years ago. Imagine the conversion would be a bit easier now.
Would vote for doing it to an additional car though.

To those who bemoan the loss of the V8, it's worth reflecting on the fact that in Rover's thinking it was probably a "stop gap" until the Jet was ready. On that basis alternative power seems totally logical.
Only question is 2 WD or 4WD.

Don't see the point. If you want a 2017 drivetrain, then why not have a properly engineered 2017 car wrapped around it? Lugging all that legacy engineering around seems the opposite of Rover's forward thinking design at the time.

Quite right! I suspect the electric P6 whilst cool for the day (or maybe a week) wont any longer be a P6 in spirit, though I do harbour dreams of dropping a Mitzi GTO twin turbo with the full 4WD drive drain in to a project 2nd P6. 400 plus HP in a 1300 kg P6 would be a real buzz
