electric power steering

I Know that there have been many blogs regarding conversion to power steering, but has any member tried a full electric system Not using hydraulics at all. See this add about easysteer. Its called easysteer and basically a electric motor is fitted within the steering column and all the remaining steering is kept including the steering boxes. I am thinking of using it on our 2200. Looking at the prices it would be I guess about £850 fully installed or about £450 for the kit.

Hi, My only thoughts at the moment are that the column is not long enough to accommodate it. I don't have access to mine at the moment but you're going to need at least 10" of straight column going by the website, so that would be the first thing to check on yours.

I think another P6 owner posted a while ago that installed this system on his P6 and was satisfied with it.
I can't find the relevant post though.

Such a conversion has been done, but I can't confirm it is with that particular kit. I read about it on one of the Facebook groups. He was very happy with it. You might want to do a bit of digging around. I'll post his name if I see it again.

I'd say keeping the original steering box is actually a downside. Although you get assistance, you still have the manual steering's gearing.

Certainly with the V8, at least half of the appeal is the greatly lessened wheel twirling, a PAS car jut feels more "agile" to me. Unless the kit physically splits the column and does something clever (programmable assistance and steering ratio with artificial feedback!) but I'm guessing not for £450.

Hi I posted about this in September 2016. I have had the conversion to EPAS done and it is great. Cost a lot but no regrets. The guy at easysteer reckoned he could not do it. It was not easy to do so I was told but definitely possible - the proof is in the eating!
