engine earth strap

Hi there,
Where is the engine earthing strap located?
I cant move the car to my hoist because the car wont start and I will have to jack it up to check if the
earth strap is broken or damaged is some way.
It will be a great help if I know exactly where to look before venturing under the car.

what model we talking about ? we can 'jump' an earth to our engine direct from. battery ? as long as we have power to starter from solenoid? it ought to crank if starter is functioning. if starter itself has packed up we will need to replace it ( or solenoid?) trying to read. between lines here and making assumption you are saying it won't crank? and you want move car to an area to remove engine as it fails to start! Harvey is probably one of the best answers here.
 
It's down by the left hand engine mounting (Looking from the back of the car) - don't forget to undo it when you take the engine out :p

the car is a 1976 rover p6b 4 door sedan with auto gearbox..
the car has an ongoing problem, it wont start, it cranks but wont fire , even with a brand new simmonbbc dizzy and matching coil.
thought that maybe the earth is dodgy, need to check anything, clutching at straws to get the car running again, otherwise its going to become
a garden gnome...

Harvey Is correct . have we checked we have spark ? is timing ok? eg right cylinder and on compression stroke? have we tried a compression test? do we have fuel supply past carbs? have we tried a squirt of fuel in inlet tracts if we have a spark? always best of checking basics first and. working way through a long slow process too ensure base areas are ok. at basic levels if we have a half decent air fuel mix in a cylinder of air being compressed at introduce a spark at right moment.. it ought to ignite! that is principal million son vehicle all over world work on as simple physics. so we check we have compression? a spark? timing is good? right spark on right cylinder ? ( leads can get mixed ) are we sure we dont have an ignition cutout switch hidden away ? My car has one under drivers side behind glovebox . it allows car to crank ignite and fire and then immediately Cust out when we release ignition key! flip switch ( earths coil) and it fires and runs. w may have a simple earthing on coil side. ? I had a few problems with ballast coil /wiring when fitting a full replacement electronic dizzy . after several days checking wiring circuits. managed to suss and correct . hopefully you're is a simple circuit fault but these can be a pain to sort. a decent auto electrician can sift through many areas far faster! do let us all know solution or how it's going.
 
I think ButterFingers said on previous post that he had a weak spark, I would do like Classical Green Said Start from the beginning
with the simple things first, a good charged battery, check the coil with a multi meter even if its new it could be faulty
check all the wire terminals around the coil are they nice and clean, if its a new coil is it the correct coil?
when you fitted the new electric ignition did you disconnect the battery first as can blow / damage the new electric ignition unit
did you adjust the timing? worse case could you put the points back on to see if its the new electric ignition as even though the unit is new its not uncommon to have a faulty one.
Whats the gap like with the rotar arm magnetic trigger and the electric ignition you can adjust the distance make it nice and close but not so its touching.
 
Always seems amazing to me when you see a picture like that that that great lump is fundamentally held in with those two skinny threads poking out of the rubber mounting.
