Exhaust Clearance

On my 2000sc there is very little clearance between the downpipe from the manifold and the car mainframe. Most times on cold start up the exhaust bangs against the frame. To hopefully rectify this I have ordered a couple of the vw engine mounts which seem to be popular on the forum.
Last year, I replaced my Tc engine with an sc. and I am now wondering whether I inadvertently fitted the engine mount brackets incorrectly. My understanding is that the TC brackets left and right are different. Whereas the SC brackets right and left are both the same as the TC right side bracket... Is this correct?

Have rechecked my mounting brackets and both are different, having different size holes for the rubber mounts. This means, based upon the above that I have one wrong bracket fitted to my SC.
Thinking aloud here, why are the brackets different? Once one side bracket is fitted then the engine position is fixed. Fitting the wrong bracket can't lift or lower the engine, perhaps it could move it forward or backwards slightly.....a eureka moment here ...the brackets are different because the manifolds are different. No doubt everyone on this forum have known this for years but I've just twigged. Is that it?
Whatever the reason ,I need to sort my brackets out. I have different brackets fitted to an SC, and that is wrong. But will it stop my exhaust banging? Time will tell.

It's not because of the manifold. Nobody really knows why the TC mount has the big hole and the insulating bushings, but I have used both types on TC engines without any problems.

Thanks, I was just hoping for some way to improve the clearance between the exhaust downpipe and the main frame. Perhaps these new vw rubber mounts will help. Will let you know.

Nobody really knows why the TC mount has the big hole and the insulating bushings, ...

I think that they were trying to disrupt the heat path: manifold -> bracket -> bolt -> rubber mounting.
I expect the TC manifold to radiate significantly more heat than the SC one.
