Fan replacement

Decided to replace the belt driven fan for an electric one , I got a fan and off ebay and fitted it yesterday.
I had intended to make up some brackets and fit close as possible to the radiator upper brackets were no problem but struggled to fabricate one at the bottom so I resorted to using the plastic cable kit that came with the fan and fitted it directly onto the rad .
Never been happy using this method and in the past I've made brackets to avoid contact with the rad but I will have to keep an eye on the rad .
I removed the original fan and put new one on front of rad as it would not fit behind due to the long nose pump on my car . I'm waiting for a thermostat controller so at the moment it works on a manual switch via a relay .
I also replaced the delay wiper pipe to the delay switch on the steering column and now my delay is between 7 to 2 seconds so the od pipe must have been leaking .

With apologies, my OCD is totally triggered by your new leccy fan not being mounted in the centre of the grille! You're going to have to either peel the little silver stickers off the fan motor, or colour them in with a fat black marker pen, otherwise I won't be able to sleep tonight. ;)

Ha ha .I will sort that out and post a photo so you can then rest easy, would not want you deprived of sleep at your time of life lol

Why not have a boss added to the the radiator and use standard thermoswitches (22mm IIRC)? Much easier and neater. I use a 2 speed one for my V8. You don't even need relays as the contacts are rated up to 15 amps.

Thank you kindly for your concern, Russ!
Looks better now, doesn't it? The fan, not your sleeve. I left the Kenlowe stickers on mine, 'cos it cost more than a non branded version, and I love a good logo on a go fast part. It does make it go faster, doesn't it? ;)

Hi Peter
What is a boss

One of these into which the switch is screwed. Neat, huh? That's a standard thermoswitch used for decades on many cars. I think that a Peugeot switch which cost £5 secondhand. I did a arite-up for the V8 and most of it applies elsewhere. Contrary to popular opinion you really don't need so much in normal operating conditions. About 80W of fan will cool the V8, you could probably make you fan run slower/quieter for a 4 pot but still have the fallback of full power with a 2 speed switch if it got very hot.

Hi, Be aware, some are designed to be positioned at the top and some the bottom of the rad so be careful with temperature ranges of the switches.
