Finally the project is underway.

Get big pair of mole grips or stilson wrench on it.

This has worked for me in the past.

Thank you to all those who offered advice on how to undo the stubborn nut. Today it finally gave up the battle and came off, interestingly the size did depend on which pair of flats the spanner was offered up to and Harvey was correct when the 15/16" finally went on and a short time later the calipers were on the floor. So tomorrow they will be delivered to the brake specialists for rebuilding. While that is underway I can turn my attention to other items that need work. Again thank you gentlemen (you must be gentlemen as your Rover owners ;) )
Bruce

All ready to replace the servo and calipers now they are back from the brake specialist. Looking nice and shiny with their new paint job. The new pads are here as well so hopefully we will have working brakes again very soon.

Another month gone by and little progress has been made on the car. I had a good hard look at the ball joint and steering boots and decided they needed replacing while the brakes were off the car. A wise decision as the lower ball joints are well past their use by date, didn't seem to be any play in them until the uprights were removed from the car, then they almost fell out of the sockets. In keeping with the rough service the car has endured the lower right hand ball joint had a piece of soft wire through the castellated nut, not even bent around the nut and the front hub nut had a split pin but it was loose, removed it and the tin hat and the nut was clear of the washer to the extent I was able to just unwind it off the stub axle by hand. The end result is all the bushes, the top and bottom ball joints and all the dust gaiters are being replaced along with new wheel bearings.Does anyone know what the packing washers between the upper supports were made of and what their dimensions were as mine are perished?
