Hi to all,

Firstly I hope everyone and their families are safe and well in these trying times. I also hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas, and the new year will bring some much needed return, to some semblance of normality.

So....just bought a 1973 P6 V8. I have lusted after one for many years. I wasn't actually looking for one, but this old girl came up and couldn't resist. Have several things to do. First will be a front end rebuild. Then I'll start the rear end. Want to get the car driving very nice, before I attack a few of the little rust bubbles. I'm sure this car would be known to Rover guys here in Oz, so if you have any info, please let me know.
Not new to cars, and have a bit of an eclectic mix. '78 928 Manual, '77 Fiat X1/9, '76 Dolomite 1850, '03 Saab 9-5 Aero, 05 Megane 225 Sport and a couple of daily drivers. Pretty handy with a spanner, but will probably need to lean on the expertise of some of you guys here, so please be patient with me.

Cheers
Scott

Welcome, P6's grow on you as you will undoubtedly find out.

Graeme

Funny you say that. About three weeks after I bought it, another car I have been hankering for came up for sale. I advertised the Rover, but then couldn't go through with it. I withdrew it from sale the next day.

A P6 is for life, not just for Christmas ;)

Or do you mean a life sentence

I used to own a lifestyle block took a few years but I must be a slow learner because what a life style block really means is a life sentence.

Welcome Scott and can I add to your seasonal message, hope 2021 is a more "normal" year particularly for those in the UK, US and Europe.

Assume from the plates that you are in SA?

Hi Scott,

Welcome to the forum! British racing green, quite a rare colour for the Australian market Rovers. Your Rover has the 10.5:1 engine?
You will have lots of fun working on her, the front suspension will bring bring lots of tears and joy.

Happy New Year
Ron

Hey Ron,
How would I find out about the compression ratio?
I'm storing the car for now as I have two projects mid way through resto. Once they're done, my Dolomite is next, then the Rover.

How would I find out about the compression ratio?

It should be stamped with the engine number, which is on the shoulder of the block behind the LH cyl head on early engines and will be 10.5:1 if it's there, or next to the dipstick tube on the top face of the block if it's a later one, and will be 10.5:1 or 9.25:1 if it's situated there. If for some reason the cr isn't there then the engine number suffix will tell you A B & C suffix being 10.5:1, and D being 9.25:1. All providing it's as standard.
