That strikes me as an astonishing bargain, Dave.

These cars were very highly rated in their day - and as you say, a Porsche eater. They also have the singular advantage of not being a Renault (although badged and sold as one) - It's a MATRA - as in the jet fighters! Matra dabbled in Renault mid engined sports cars from the mid 60's onwards and had notable success in rallying. They were also responsible for such delights as the original Espace (does anyone remember the carbon fibre prop shaft on the 4WD ones?) and the more recent Avantine. I think they gradually reversed into Renault and are now simply a division of the Regie, but still build all the low volume interesting stuff.

Think you're a bit wrong there Chris. The only Renault engined sports car Matra produced was the Djet, produced up to 1967. Its successor, the 530 had a Ford V4 and the Bagheera and Murena models Simca derived engines. Matra built the Espace Series 1,2 & 3 and the Avantime up to 2003 when Renault took over production in-house. The Matra factory at Romorantin has now been demolished although there is a museum in the town, worth a visit if you're ever in that area, and Matra no longer make cars. http://www.matra-club.net

Ah yes, I remember the V4 now. I hadn't realised the Simca's were Matra though. Shame to hear it's all flattened now.

Another semi exotica along the same lines as the car Pilkie's selling was the Subaru flat 6 coupe - SV? or something like that. It was so nearly a stunning motor and just had a couple too many quirks for it to go mainstream.

Chris

I did quite like these Renault's when they were current & see nothing here to change my opinion of them. You really don't see them about though even back in the day they weren't a common sight.

My opinion of french cars hasnt changed!
YUK!!!
Although this is easier to work on than some.
I wouldnt normally give them room on my drive, let alone lift a screwdriver to them!!
But Edds a mate, and a self-employed french polisher/antique restorer and needs to sell it asap to get a new van.

Chris: Subaru SVX, sold in Japan as the Alcyone
Competed with the Mazda Cosmo 3-rotor rotary Coupe and the Lexus Coupe
Sold 'em new; they were top cars

VERY ANNOYED!!
An ebay buyer though he could use the buy now as a means to reserve it until he came with wifey to look at it.
At least he had paid a deposit and lost that!
She wore the trousers, didnt like it as it didnt talk to her,so they walked away!
I had stated clearly that you must "advised to" view before using buy it now!
Hopefully at 13:30 today a buyer will arrive via train, with a price agreed,I will pick him up,he will exchange a wad of cash for a wad of history and a set of keys and drive into the sunset!

XXXXXXXXXXX My fingers and everything else I can cross!
