GAN 340J 1971 series 2 V8

Hi Mark.
Under bonnet looking great lots of work needed to get to that point,
Am at the same stage as you on the under bonnet area except i have to sand blast servo/coil/ master cylinder area as too much light rust to sand down.
Keep going:)
Clive.

Hi Clive,
You are right - it's a lot of work.
I've not gone to this level on a car before - but worth the effort.

Gearbox number

Still undecided to keep BW35 or substitute BW65 from donor car (both unproven)
The ideal would be a modern auto with longer legs - but I can't justify the additional work and cost at the moment.

Engine number

The engine runs really well - so no major works planned - timing chain set - gaskets - hoses - clips - detail.
I also have a pair of SDI heads which may go on.

303 is the latest and best incarnation of the BW35 in the P6B, although what's inside it now is anyone's guess.

That isn't the engine number, it looks cast in and looks very much like a date. 29.10.71? The number should be either on the shoulder behind the LH head, or on the block face by the dipstick tube.

Thanks Harvey,
I am leaning towards keeping the original BW35 - tbc - as car will be high days and holidays rather than a daily.
Is there much difference (assuming both working) between this and 65 ?
I will look again for correct engine number behind L/H head next time I am there - (it's not by the dip stick)

Although the 65 uses a lot of the same parts as the 35, the differences in construction make it a lot more reliable and smoother in operation.
That said, if the 35 is set up correctly and working as it should then I wouldn't think it would be worth changing for a 65.

I've just read this thread from start to finish and the work so far is spectacular. Amazing back-story too, and I cannot wait to see more!

First time at the workshop for over a month.

Engine bay prepped - etch primed and finished in 2 pack satin black.

I'm really pleased with results and gloss level.

Hi Mark.
D post trial fitting looks familiar.
Can't beat the genuine panels for correct fit and look.
Clive.

Hi Clive,
You are right ref genuine panels - D post clearance is now literally mm as per passenger side - relieved !
