GAN 340J 1971 series 2 V8

That is a whole lot of new metal going in there, indeed! May I join the queue of people giving you justly deserved back-slaps, and wish you well putting your car back on the road in the best possible shape!

Thanks all for the positive comments.
I wish I could claim credit for the welding - but it's all Jamie - he is brilliant with a MIG - and made the project a reality.
My original gas welded repairs remain - part of me in the car !

Hi Peter,
That's where I come in after welding is finished.
Plan to - oxide all metal - smooth black Hammerite - seam seal all joints - black stone chip (or Shultz undecided) - Wax inject all cavities.

Excellent stuff,Mark i'm doing some of it soon, probably over xmas break..some nice references there, cheers!

Love those revised jacking points. Wish I'd thought of that when I got my base unit fixed. I've said it before but I'll say it again; wicked work your metalworking mate is doing for you!

My car is whole again - metal wise
Doors - wings - bonnet - boot - cover sills - all trial fitted.

Cover sills removed and spire nuts installed as alternative fixing method.

looking great, will be a shame to hide all that lovely welding with paint.

Will it be ready for next year?

Picked up engine & box yesterday - this was removed a while ago when the bay was painted.59D1EDBC-0B75-4B0C-A8C9-CB9B66837AF7.jpeg

Plan to remove box & send to eight of them for rebuild.

Mount to shiny new engine stand & freshen up.

I have - new cam - lifters - duplex timing set - oil pump upgrade kit - SD1 heads - full gasket set with composite head gaskets.

Also plan to fit new shell bearings & valve stem oil seal kit - probably leave rings alone, as the engine ran smooth & quietly.

Started strip down.

Quite pleased how clean it is inside so far.5B70E1D0-E7D4-4D77-B178-24F5459C571C.jpeg

Camshafts seen better days, wonder how the lobes look.

what are you going to use to clean it out?

I'll have the old cam out in next couple of days and post pics.

Hurricane cam going in.

Engine cleaner and stiff tooth brush planned.

Mark.

THat's pretty good. Black but no lumps of crud. Do you have the later heads with the cup type valve seals? In my experience these DO make a difference to the cleanliness of the engine and it should be remembered that with the small P6 sump these are an especially good idea.

Still the original 10.5:1 engine & heads - circa 73k miles.

Have got sd1 heads to fit - was considering fitting later cup stem seals to these.
