Gasket for thermostat

Rover 2200sc automatic.

I'm refitting the water metal unit and hose that bolts on the side of the thermostat.

Do I need to use a gasket or shall I use a sealant so it does not leak?

Thank you

Always with a gasket. If you want to smear lightly the gasket on both sides with blue Hylomar, it won't hurt.

You can make a gasket with gasket paper. You can buy universal type, where there are semi punch holes, you just punch out the one you need out. Gates 33614, and Stant 25101. Wadhams sells them. You can also match something up at a parts store.

James.
