Gearbox rebuild

The gearbox on my 1974 3500 is a bit notchy, and recently spat out a synchro tooth when I changed the oil. As the car is my daily driver I don't want it off the road for too long so have acquired another box which I intend to have rebuilt in readiness for the current box's eventual demise. Is there anything particularly unusual or complicated about the P6 box, such that it would be wise to take it to a marque specialist, or should any competent garage be able to do it?

Some parts are NLA, and some parts are available, but expensive, the rear bearing is £175 alone, and setting up the laygear and the selectors can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing, as can dismantling the box in the first place. Try removing the bellhousing as you would on most boxes and it will move about 1/4", overtravel one of the synchro hubs, and lock up solid. It's quite common to get a bit of the hub come out with the oil, but on its own it's not really a cause for alarm.

Thanks Harvey. The box changes nicely enough so long as I don't try to hurry it, so perhaps the spare won't be needed.
