gearshift lever

Hi all, I braved the cold shed and jumped in to the car to reattach the gearshift lever and the alloy housing (that holds the bulb) together, finding that when putting the lever into park position, one has to ram it hard forwards to lock it into position, and to ram it hard forwards to allow the button to be pushed, to allow the pin to move out of position, therefore allowing the lever to select gears.
I do not have any linkages connected underneath, so there is is nothing to hinder movement, and I didn't seem to have this on the series one I had, but seem to have had it on this present car, before disassembly.
Would anybody have an idea of how I can adjust this out?
I tried lifting the alloy housing higher from the transmission tunnel using a washer under the three bolts, which helped, but not much enough to be happy with it.
Thanks Karl

Try loosening off the top alloy housing .Place the gear stick in park and then re tighten the alloy housing. See if the movement is smoother now .

Hi Gerald, It didn't fix the problem.
Hi have managed to get the best I am going to get by inserting two washers at the front mounts which raises the front of the alloy from the transmission body/panel, omitting the rear washer .

Well ,Im not the expert I thought I was-bugger

lol most of the time it seems to be trial and error
she has had the transmission replaced at some stage so they may have got it wrong.
Seems they did a crap job, well not up to my standard :)
