I seem to have bought a P6B

Needs some tlc but having owned a 2200SC for several months I had to have a V8!

First question (P6 general)

Are the passenger and drivers seat base the same?

If so I can swap the V8 drivers seat base with the new seat base in my four pot before I sell it

Hi Richard

Yes the seat bases are the same so can be swapped. Follow the procedure in the workshop manual, it's a pretty straightforward job.

Your V8 looks to have nice new carpets in it. That might be a sign that the base unit is in good condition. I certainly wouldn't contemplate fitting new carpets into a car with a suspect base unit as water can find its way in through all sorts of places. Good luck with the new purchase.

Thank you Dave, I thought they looked near enough to make it worth trying

It does look as if the carpets are new, not sure if the blue is an original colour?

I will find out tomorrow!

looks to have the sd1 oil breather set up. may have had a new engine at some point. The breather setup is better on sd1s so that's a good thing :) Also still has the early alternator bracket I think?

She is home after a four hour drive in the crappest (is that a word?) weather

Congleton to Lincoln in torrential rain

She drives surprisingly well

Oil light flickers at roundabouts and she doesn`t like traffic jams, temp gauge is up the top end of the green but drops to middle when moving

Any advice from those that know?

Temp gauge sounds fine. Oil pressure can usually be fixed with a little effort. You can reface the oil pump cover and get an uprated pump for a start.

Hi, It has SD1 rocker covers as well so a check of the engine number will tell if it's had a later engine or just been dressed up with later bits. If it's a later engine an oil pump uprating kits wont be much use.

Thank you Colin

Where is the engine number stamped on the V8?

I seem to remember it is at the back of the engine somewhere

First job today is to check fluids again and a good clean to see what I have got

Hi, The early engines had the number at the back of the engine behind the the L/H head, the later ones were positioned just by the dipstick.

Congratulations then!

Now the typical question is what are your impressions of the V8 versus the 4 cyl model. ;)

Completely different beast!

V8 gathers speed effortlessly, four pot you have to be patient

Drove it 100 miles yesterday and enjoyed every minute (apart from the apprehension of driving a new to me 45 year old car 100 miles in driving rain!)

Sound alone makes it worthwhile

Lots of niggly problems like four litres of coolant short - no wonder it didn`t like traffic jams

One at a time is the way to solve them

If anybody has a clock for sale please let me know
