hi all

Sorry but not a Rover owner , although I would love a 2000 Auto :)

I am currently build a car on a Sherpa chassis and word is that Rover P4 wheels have the same PCD and give a useful increase in diameter ?

Could I ask what is the difference between the disc brake wheels and the drum brake wheels ?

I will NOT be breaking a P4 to get it's wheels , I had a P4 100 many years ago and have very fond memories of that car !

regards Paul

Hi, IIRC it's something to do with the centre bore of the wheels, one will fit both types of hub but not the other way round. Sorry I can't be more specific it's been a while since I have worked on them.

Thanks , that explains the other question I think ?

I assume P4's only had discs on the front ? so unless they carried 2 spares their wheels must have fit both ?

regards Paul

Hi, Yes I forgot about the other question. P4 and P5 wheels are 15" and P6 and SD1 are 14" all the same PCD.

The early P4 wheels are not very strong and were reinforced for the later models with disc brakes but I would be careful using them on anything heavier or capable of
more dynamic handling as they are not designed for radial tyres. The P4 were never produced from the factory with Radial tyres. When doing the initial testing on the P6, Rover engineers were getting wheel cracking with the radial tyres giving huge increases in grip and side loading on the wheels not seen before. This was obviously resolved before production started.

Hi all

Thanks for your useful information regarding the wheels.

I am not out to build a speed car , just an Edwardian style car with a modest 1700cc motor and hopefully bags of character :-

Tribute to Edwardian aero engined cars and Land Speed Record cars of the 1920's
I did wonder whether LandRover wheels may be a better choice P4 tyres seems to be about £150 a corner ? a bit expensive for 5 and a on the cheap motor ?

regards Paul

ps can't imaging for a minute my car will be heavier than a P4 ! I removed all the heavy bits and threw them away ;)
