Gremlins - Any Ideas?

Dear All.

I drove my V8 to work a while ago, and it cut out in the car park. I put the cutting out down to a problem I had with the gas conversion which I have now sorted.

Anyway, tried to restart the car but nothing - not even a click. I assumed at the time that the inhibitor switch was at fault due to the battery being fully charged. However, when I got the car home, I found that there was no feed to the starter solenoid and no spark at the points, yet I had a good feed to the alternator. When I took the back off the ignition switch, I could get the ignition lights to illuminate by shorting the terminals, but could not get it to turn over or fire.

In the end, I paid for an auto electrician to have a look at it, scratch his head, find the same problems I had found and then the problem mysteriously disappears? I also had the misfortune of him saying how much he liked the car and he took it on an extended road test, running it on petrol for about an hour - COST ME AN ARM AND A LEG!!!!!

For a while I drove it - waiting for the bomb to go off at any minute but touch wood, it hasn’t done it since.

Anyone experienced something similar - ring any bells?

Thank you, Johnny. ???

You don't say if it's an auto or a manual, possibly an inhibitor switch problem.

nailed it by a month.
