Ok to get at the linkage at this end do I just undo these bolts and lift so I can adjust the tension?

No, the adjuster for the cable is underneath the car, just forward of the diff pinion crossmember on the underside of the tunnel. There is only one setting, not a handbrake adjustment, on the cable.

Thanks Harvey. As the handbrake wont hold does it mean that I have to renew the cable? The only other thing that I did have a rear caliper replaced, would that of been the problem both calipers work as went through mot they were lieniant with the handbrake? Also if I had to renew the handbrake cable is it all done from underneath?

If the handbrake doesn't hold, it's unlikely the cable will need replacing, if it's had a caliper fitted it's more likely the cable has been incorrectly set in an effort to compensate for poorly set up calipers. Get under the car and a) make sure there isn't any slack in the cable, and b) the quadrants are back on their stops with the handbrake off. If you have both of those, then the calipers are either faulty, or need setting up. Did the garage that fitted the caliper do the MOT?
