Hazard flasher unit

Hi All, the hazard flasher unit failed to operate yesterday, it was working okay 2 weeks ago, the car is a July 1971 3500 auto, I'm quite sure it is the original, everything else works fine including the indicators so, are there 2 flasher units (one for the indicators and one for the hazard flasher?) I've had a look in the workshop manual and I think (I hope) it is in the driver's glove box. Can anyone advise please i.e. what do they look like, ref/type number etc, is it likely that it could have failed. Thanks in advance

They look like small rectangular aluminium cans.35052.jpg Have you checked the fuse to the hazard flashers? On my 2200 they as you say above the drivers side storage box.
It could also be dirty contacts in the hazard flasher switch, they are very fragile. To check if its the flasher unit, disconnect the two wires from the unit and a connect them together. All the indicators should then illuminate when operating the Hazard flasher switch. If they do its faulty flasher unit, if they don't, look to the switch or the fuse to it

If you do have to replace the relay, consider going electronic. The quality of the "Lucas" items currently on offer ranges from fair to abysmal.

I fit them to all my cars for both indicators and hazards....constant flash rate, and reliably long-lasting. You do need to add a fly lead for earth, but that's no hardship.
Green to Terminal 49, Light Green/Brown to 49a, Earth to 31.

This one, or there's plenty quite a bit cheaper on ebay:
12 Volt 3 Pin Electronic Flasher Relay

Good luck!

Is the fuse for this a "line fuse", all the fuses in the box are okay (mine is the type with just 4 fuses) I think the unit is tucked right into the top right corner of the drivers storage box and it looks as if is located in a small bracket, does this sound correct?
Thanks fella's. Dave

I understand the fuse on yours is a line fuse, which according to the diagram is in the feed to the flasher unit . The unit clips into s spring steel bracket. Location on my 2200 is top RH behind the storage box.

Hi "roverp480", yep, that's exactly the same as mine line fuse and all, I have got a new Lucas unit from Holdens which is now fitted and working okay, I did consider what Stan recommended but I'm not sure about the electronic type, I wondered about there being a possible "mis-match" with the older systems on the P6B
Thanks Fellas for your help. Dave
