on the 10 October 1969 2 car importers made headlines, Rover and Mercedes

Our P6 Rover 3500S was up against the Mercedes Benz 280SE which listed at $6000 -$11000 the Rover V8 being quoted at $5000

yours have the 3 scoops Chris?
"The center scoop on the Rover's hood serves as a direct air intake for the dual carburetor. The outside scoops have settings for summer and winter weather for under the hood cooling and ventilation. "
what I don't understand is if it was considered that P6 exports would get these "3 scoops" then why not the UK P6s?

Because BL and Rover assumed all of North America was very hot (not allowing that it stretches from Central America to Alaska/Canada! Conversely, They assumed anything in the states didn't need a block heater in the winter, but you could buy them in Canada!

Nice post Falkor, that's a USA price but for 1969, both cars was a lot of money even by the UK pound price the Rover P6 price wise was just a dream to own one day for many.
I am 50/50 on the Scoop it would be nice to have two bonnets for sure, I bet someone on here has made a Scoop in there garage lol

We , working at Rover, were often advised ( warned) that other parts of the world outside Warwickshire had very different requirements and/or views . as it was easy to advise or engineer with a rather blinkered parochial view . Conversely it was often difficult to reconcile these differences. When working on the LR Discovery 3 , the positioning of the fuel filler came up at a project meeting and the German view we were advised was that fuel fillers should be on the right hand side of the car so one was on the safe (kerb)side of the car should one need to pull over and stop to refuel . Conversely the USA view we were told ,was it should be on the same side as the drivers door for ease of use at gas stations.
