Heat shields on 2000TC

Where should the heat shields be installed on a 2 can 2000 TC exhaust system?
I seem to recall that there was one next to the gearbox and one around the bend over the De Dion tube.
At the moment the bend over the De Dion tube is wrapped with an insulating bandage and I have fitted insulation from the connection between the manifold after the y piece up to the next connection, in other words all the straight part below the passenger compartment.
Would appreciate your comments.

Richard

Before a certain serial number, no heat shields were fitted. Cars that did get them hThere are two, both on the order of 18" long. One is fitted to the bend as you describe, the other aft of the gearbox mounting plate on the straight pipe under the car.

No, though if you're using the fabric tape type insulation you're likely to see the pipe rot out quicker at the cooler end if you drive much in the wet.

I am using a fabric type of insulation. Its a stainless steel system and I rarely drive in the wet, maybe once every ten years!!!!!!!!!!! At one point in the straight part its made from 2 pipes , one in the other so that from the smaller diameter one the bell mouth is formed. Where the pipes overlap corrosion is starting to appear and will need seeing to soon.
