Heated rear windscreen

I discovered yesterday that my heated rear window is not working, I checked the in-line fuse just behind the pull switch switch which is 25 amp and the fuse had blown. When I replaced the fuse blue again immediately. Is there a common place where there is likely to be a short causing the fuse to blow, or is it a case of a full exploration of the whole system? I thought it was worth asking in case there is a common problem with before I start pulling up carpets and pulling out seats! Thanks in advance.

I'd remove the interior trim on the drivers side from the "D" post and disconnect the supply to the glass then try again if the fuse still blows then it's a problem between the switch and glass so note the wire colour and trace back towards the swirch.

PS Was it working, has it had any other electrical work done or any inner sill welding?

Hi Harvey, not sure when it last worked, however through last summer I did have some welding done to the rear end of the inner sill........I am guessing from your question, that could be my issue. However I shall follow your advice and start tracing things back.

Remove the switch connections to be sure the switch hasnt failed - the one I have has an earth connection to turn on the warning light. Then put a meter on the lead that goes to the rear, and see if it shows zero ohms, indicating a short. Then do as Harvey says at the rear. I have the opposite problem - power to the switch, but open circuit from there on - will be opening the rear D pillar next.
