Heater fan wiring

Another heater fan question. I've just overhauled the heater box on a V8 automatic. The fan will now only run on one speed, with the control lever 2/3 of the way down. If you push the lever all the way down the fan stops running. The question is, is it the wiring at the fan or a fault with the lever in the dash? I'm puzzled, as all the wires went back to their original positions. Any ideas? Could it the fan that's dying now it's been disturbed?
Thanks, John

Hi John. I have the exact same issue on my series 1 2000 TC although unlike you I have not done any work on the car. Did you resolve the problem?

Peter

The power to the heater comes from a fuse, then goes into the heater box by (on my car) a Brown/white wire. My wiring diagram disagrees but it must have been changed sometime in its life.

Then there are two wires coming out which come out from the back of the heater box, then out to one side between the heater and the bulkhead. You might be able to get to these wires. The lever switch on the control lever sends the power to earth therefore completing the circuit.

This means that when the ignition is on, both of the wires coming from the heater should be live. The Brown/Black is for the slow speed, and the Brown/Yellow for the fast speed.

If you have a voltmeter, you can check these are both live going to the control lever, and if you can get to them, down by the side of the heater.
