Heater wiring problem!!

A few months ago I took the heater out of Minstrel (1972 2000SC) to refurb it. Having cleaned and resprayed it I put it back. As far as I can tell everything works including the heat, so no airlock found. However, when I try to wire it, I find I have 2 wires that come from the fan motor that do not fit anywhere. One of these is an earth as when I touch the lead to the body of the car the fan runs all the time. The fan is also extremely noisy. It was before I took it out but I thought had cured that problem when I cleaned it, as when I had cleaned the fan I tried it and it was pretty quiet.

As for the wiring I plugged the 3 colour coded bullet-end wires(from the heater thermostat) back into the original bullet connector by the steering box. Which left me with the 2 wires from the fan. The original wires that were on the fan were so badly decayed I couldn't even tell what colour they were originally. I have tried connecting the fan motor to the fan switch on the right side of the centre console but this still makes the motor run permanently.

Got to admit no matter how much I study the wiring diagrams in the manual it does not tell me where the wires go.

PLEASE can someone help me with this problem?

Many thanks in advance, guys.IMG_20200522_092121.jpgIMG_20200522_135906.jpgIMG_20200526_152038.jpgIMG_20200526_152048.jpg

One wire from the actual motor goes to the resistor for the two speeds and the other to the power feed from the fuse box. The motor is actuated by the lever switch to earth

Hi. Thank you for the reply. Don't want to sound stupid but electrics and me don't go. Is the resistor on the righthand heater lever? As I said I do not understand electrics. I am more mechanically minded. The main problem with my car is that whoever done a so-called restoration on it in 2011-2014 also messed with some of the wiring so not all the wires match the wiring diagrams. I am going to try to rewire the fan with original colour wiring if possible. The problem with that is the wiring diagram does not show the heater fan. Lol. With all that I have done to restoring Minstrel in the last 4 years the heater wiring is the only problem I have had. Thank you again for your understanding.

The resister is a grey cylinder inside the heater. Then the wire from the resister goes to the first position on the fan lever. The second position (all the way down) wire goes directly to the motor.

I will remove the heater tomorrow and rewire as suggested. Thank you for the information. I will update the forum when I have finished. Many thanks again.

The later " new look" on, wiring diagrams show the set up better. Item 22 in the picture is the heater and the round disc RH end is the motor . at the LH end is the resister . The NG lead is from the fuse and connects to one lead on the motor, the other lead connects to the resister ( grey cylinder) .
The other end of the resister is connected to the slow switch on the heater controls . The fast switch wire connects to the same end of the resister as the lead from the motor. motor . The rectangular blocks in the wires are joints .20200927_083751.jpg

Many thanks for the diagram. It is a lot clearer as you said. I am not going to do it today as it is a beautiful sunny day with temps of 25c.....Oops, sorry thought I was still on Furlough! It's actually peeing down with gale force winds!! :) :) :)
