Hello all, My name is David and I've been registered on the forum for a while so thought time to say "hello".

I had a few P6s back in "the day", the last being a 3500S and when my son (who has happy childhood memories of travelling in mine) bought a V8, built in his year of birth (1972), I just had to have one too, so I bought "SXE" of Pilkie. :) I have a few classic cars of various years between 1935 (Singer Le Mans) and 1990 (TWR XJR-S Jaguar) which I have had from new. (the Jag not the Singer, I'm not quite that old!!) My "classics", (with the exception of the XJR-S) whilst fun to drive, are not the most pleasant, relaxing or comfortable cars to drive when compared to modern cars, but when I drove SXE back from Bristol, I realised that I had forgotten just what a beautiful drive the P6 was/is and even without power steering it is still an absolute joy to drive and I use it as my day's drive at least once a week.

My son and I have just started restoring his P6 so I am sure I will be looking for advice when I am unable to find answers by searching existing posts. Anyway Nuff said, I'll shut up now before I bore everyone to tears by stating things you obviously already know.

Hello David
Good on you for posting a resume of yourself on here .
They are the most comfortable classic drive around , arnt they ? .Ive had a few classics over the years and the P6 was the only one I missed when I onsold her .
I have her back now after a brain meltdown .
Sounds like Pilkie's love of his life went to a good home .
Singer eh ? Not too many bods on here could say they've owned one of those . Let alone driven one . Let alone know what you're talking about !!
The TWR would be a sort after bit of metal now that Tom has gone and its the genuine article . Let me guess green and white ?
Nearly bought a 60's SP250 last week . Wife was OK with it too . I think thats what killed the deal !
regards
Gerald

Hello Gerald,

Thanks for you response, it appears that you know of the Singer so I attach a picture of the car. I use the Singer for quite long journeys from time to time and it has been driven to Le Mans, driven the circuit (not raced ) and driven back to UK, so certainly no trailer queen! The TWR jaguar is not in race trim or in TWR colours, it was a retail car, of which they produced a limited number before production moved to Jaguar Sport division. This particular car was the launch press car and featured on the Summer 1990 sales brochure. My late wife purchased it from TWR with 478 miles on clock and used it for her daily drive for 3 years, it now shows 50,000 miles.

Sorry for "foreign" pictures guys, I know this is a Rover forum but Gerald does seem interested in the cars and anyway you have all must have seen dozens of pictures of SXE!

David

WELCOME David. :)
Very nice cars the Jag and Singer.
I see one of your other toys in the background of the Jag.
Do not hesitate to ask for any help you may need from us on the forum, via the relevant section.
Or start up a resto post in members projects about your sons P6,and add to it as and when you can, that way all the info is in one place.

Well, as I see it, both Jaguar and Rover ended up under the BL umbrella, so the Jaguar is definitely acceptable (and lovely). The Singer is nice as well, so no worries.

Welcome to the forum!

The XJR-S is very nice. I've had two in the last decade, both early 5.3 cars, and currently have an E-type V12 to play with.
