HI All,
I'm in need of some advice.
After a recent drive it my 2200sc I was shocked when i pulled out of a juction to find the rear wheels were not following the front ones!!!
When I stoped and had a look the tie bar that connects the de dion tube to the car by the mounts through boot floor, was resting on the tube itself. The mounting point that connects it to the boot floor has rusted right though and come completely away. (shocking as it passed an mot recently!)

Can anyone tell me the best way to go about repairing this?
I looked at the other side and that's only holding together with hope.

Cheers,
Peter

If it's any consolation it's a common problem, and repair panels are available from the P6 parts specialists for a reasonable sum.
Your one has broken the bracket as well as the boot floor, but any competent welder should be able to sort it for you without problems. Once you get the repair panel, and hold the end of the toplink back in place, it all becomes fairly self explanitory what needs to be done.

thanks for the help,
would you advice getting complete new boot floor, or just the sections for either side? I wonder if I'm better off doing the whole floor at the same time?

The repair panels are more than adequate to fix the toplink mounting. The rest of the boot area is another matter, but like everything, it doesn't need replacing just for the sake of it. If it ain't broke (rusty), dont fix (weld) it!

Your best bet is to remove the rear wings, rear silencer box, battery and its box, and then scrape off all of the underseal on the sides of the boot wall.

Then peel away the carpet/rubber mats on the inside and you will have a much better idea as to the extent of the damage.

'Let the dog see the rabbit,' as my father used to say.
