HELP rover p6 timeing

hello i have a rover p6 1964 serice 1 sc 2000 i have put new piston rings in as it used to smoke i put the engine back together and back in to the car i seam to be having problems of timining it up i have a haynes manuil on it but it is confusing does any body have a lady book instrution how to time it back up or any pictures or diagram to help she was driving on the road untill i changed these as i have tryed the ep mark with the pin locked in and tryed the top dead center she was running fine for a year untill i done this job is there any one that can help as its driving me nuts now thanks john
 
hi thanx for your reply it is both vale and ignition timing iv tryed the 1342 anti clock wise starting with 1 at the front of the engine and cam timing does the in let or the excuste have to be down on the cam timing or both shut thanx john
 
To set the cam timing, peg the crank at the EP point, position the camshaft so that the very rearmost cam lobe is pointing directly upwards, then peg the camshaft at that position, and adjust the chain to suit. The engine turns over clockwise looking from the front.

Once that's all set correctly then you can move on to the ignition timing.
 
thank you for that great help ill give it a go on wed and ill get back to you and let you no how it went thanx for your help as im more body work than engine work bit of lack of nolage in that area cheers john
