Folks

I'm stilling the real steel oil pump upgrade kit. I notice there is a "T" stamped onto the idler gear.

I don't see any reference to this in the instructions.

Is this indicating which way the gear should be installed?

Thanks

Simon

Cant see your pic.

Gears should go on either way round.

What to watch is the spacer plate and gaskets. Compare them to you pump assembly and make sure you have holes where they should be.

I had one which was minus a hole on the spacer and others have had gaskets missing a punch out. I is such a pain to remove and can be messy.

I had to machine the gears down a few thou as they wouldn't turn freely. Very worthwhile though 25 psi at hot idle instead of 15 ish before.

as I remember correctly, the gears didn´t have a special face side. If you are not sure, contact Real Steal, they are very helpful.
Had the same problem as Peter, the gears wouldn´t turn. He made the prof job, I used a mix of different gaskets. You have to look for one or two standard gaskets, which are thinner than the gaskets in this kit. You really have to measure it, incl. the gaskets, not to exceed the allowed clearance between gears and cover.
When you are refitting the timing cover (with your oil pump housing bolted to) do not forget to insert the lower studs into your timing cover otherwise you cannot pass with the studs at the oil pump housing.
BTW, to install the spacer with the dowels (and drilling the housing), did not work in my case. Then, the gears blocked completely when I refitted the pump cover. Finally I installed it without the dowel(s) and when tightening the cover of the oil pump, at the same time I turned also the gears by hand. Don´t forget to pack your oil pump fully with petroleum jelly, not with motor oil as indicated in the kit´s instruction manual. As soon as you mess around with this fiddling job, you will know why. And, do not use gasket sealant.
