hi, my first P6, 74 2200tc in tobacco leaf with manual gearbox, having had P4s and P5b before. Was enjoying a period of good running after some work when exhaust manifold failed! Never rains but pours.

Exhaust manifolds on TCs are a common failure, there seem to be some inherent stresses in the design.

Is that due to not having the rest of the exhaust lined up properly with the manifold and downpipe? Ie pulling manifold out of line?

Yes it can be. If the mounting at the bottom of the manifold where it joins the intermediate pipe isn't correctly positioned, it puts the manifold under tension.

The 2200 tc is a nice old motor, plenty of go, and those instruments and gauges are the best I've seen in any car. Used to make me feel like I was flying a spitfire!
