Hi to you all

Having just seen the pics my question about the single carb being fitted still has been answered, Looks like you will be busy for a bit I had to do a bit on mine last year and fabricated the bits I needed from sheet steel of cuts that I got from a local steel works11071776_832354303523383_7038343609829745574_n.jpg

Sorry, V8guy. Yes, I bought it with single carb. Was told by Mel when I bought it from him that he knows someone with a twin carb and will inquire about for me. Also he told me he has another front o/s wing he will dig out for me when he gets time. Nice bit of stainless in your pic. :)

Welcome
I am also in Suffolk near Eye.
I found my barn find in January, off the road since 1984, I am now driving around in it, so keep the faith !
PS have not named my car, but my mates have.............. The brown Turd ! Nice eh.

Wow I've been out here in California for 28 years & had forgotten how bad rust gets on old cars in the UK . I'm definitely spoiled my 67 TC has zero rust except where paint had chipped , good luck with the resto , it'll be a great car when done I love mine , I've been driving her every day since I rebuilt the engine , she causes quite a stir on the roads out here :)

Hi Guy.
I have got a bit of a puzzler. In the manual it says my tyres should be inflated to 50-60 lbs psi. On the tyre it say the tyre maximum is 40lbs psi. I have inflated them to 36 and the ride seems really spongy and steering is heavy. Can you please advise me? Many thanks in advance.

As you can see I have started a project thread on here. I know the welds aren't pretty to look at but they definitely do the job. Lol.
Cheers, Steve :)

Are the tyres old? That often causes them to feel heavy!

Might bump in to you in the summer!! Born and bred just outside of Lowestoft in Carlton and will be heading back from Kent in the Rover to see the family. Wave if you see us!!

I think I would look at the date marks on the tyres possibly look to change them before using the car on the road propely as in the time I've known the car it has been stationary in the one spot, you may need to adjust the steering box or add oil this may help with the feel of the steering weight.

Welcome Rich, give us a shout would be good to meet up when your up if you have the time...

I spent most of today sorting some bits out on the doors. I finished taking the remaining 2 door cards off on front offside and rear nearside. As I have been taking them off I have noticed that the 2 nearside and the front offside were pretty wet on the bottom 3rd of the card.. But on the offside rear door the card was wet right over the whole card. I know this will be due to the scraper seals being perished. A friend came up with the idea of me buying a sheet of hardboard and remaking them myself. I'll have a look around as to much the cards will be to replace and also the price of an 8'x4' sheet of hardboard. Think I know what the cheaper option is! My son and I have also had to lift the doors as they had all dropped. Fortunately none of the hinge pins were seized.
I mentioned before about my SIP 105 mig welder not being man enough. After speaking to a friend who is professional welder, it has been suggested it could well be my earth wire not making contact properly and to try changing that first. So I guess that's me sorted tomorrow! As my son goes back to sea tomorrow things are definitely gonna be slowed down till he comes home.
My wife has just said she wants to name our P6 'Minstrel' as in Black & White Minstrels, because the car is B&W. Lol

Any joy with the door cards? Sure there are plenty of other jobs higher on your list!
Just looking at re-making door cards for all four on HOT. The freezing weather drove me indoors, so made a start on cutting vinyl for front doors. Have some vinyl in "antique red", described as having a grain effect. It is really rather bright, but willing to try one door to see how it goes with the black seats.
Any advice on which hardboard to use? My brother offered to cut 4mm ply but now think this will be too thick, and heavy.

just re-read your comment about tyre pressures - iirc it's 28 front and 26 at the back...

Sponginess is probably old springs... They ride high and the body does roll, but thanks to the trick suspension you keep grip if it's as it should be.

Hi Rob
Still haven't done anything with the door cards as they are still not a priority. Will get round to them when I get to sorting the inside. Look on my Project report for most recent update. Thanks for the advice, Rob.

As v8guy says check the date code on your tyres, if older than 6 years they should be renewed. If it has a 3 digit code they will be too old.

Low tyre pressures as stated by manufacturers usually err on comfort setting to compliment springs. I keep my pressures up at 40psi on all my vehicles (non of them have low profile tyres) this helps keep a safe contact patch on the road and run cooler as a lot of the heat generated in a tyre is from the sidewall flex due to low pressures.
If your max tyre pressure is 40 then you can happily put 40psi into them.

Tyre bible website is a very good source of tyre info.

Tyre pressure is a wonderful thread filler....
But, 40 psi is 2,75 bars (sorry, I´m living in the metric world), that´s really far behind the pressure for a 195 tyre on a 1.3 ton car. Temperature is really not a problem for a tyre, which isn´t too old, even you drive them with below 2.0 bars.
In the "older" days comfort was priority and tyre design wasn´t that good as it is today even with cheap fareast tyres.
With today´s knowledge and priority more to fuel efficiency and the better tyres, pressure would be around 2.2 bars front and rear or even a little bit more at the front for a P6. Little bit...
A 205/60 would be driven with comparable pressure, it´s the volume, that matters.
And, for sure, today it depends also on the combination of car and tyre. At my present E320 Estate with 245/40-17 I raised pressure to 2.6 f and 2.5 r. Car was very bumpy at low speeds. Finally found out, that it was simply too high. No, it was not the personal "taste", Mercedes states clearly, that this combination should not go over 2.3-2.4.
Lowered it and could not believe the change in comfort and handling. And, as every German, never looked into the manual

Hi guys.
Update on my tyres. They are brand new. When I bought the car last March the seller told me all he wanted for the car was the £350 back he paid for the tyres. I have the receipt for them as well.
I have recently added an update to my Project Thread regarding the rear suspension. So far I am very happy with progress. Other than putting the suspension back on the only thing left to do underneath is renovating the rear brakes. I have new pads for that thanks to Colin. Oh...and replace the starter when I get it back from the repair shop. Things looking good at the moment. Happy New Year to you all and many thanks for all the sound advice you have given me and, I hope, will continue to do so if needed.
