How do I open the bootlid

Hello, this is my first post. I am new to P6 ownership. I purchased a neglected 2200sc auto last week and it was delivered on Friday.

The problem I have is that the bootlid is closed and will not open. It is not locked because the button pushes in but does not spring the lid.
I have sprayed a good dose of WD40 into the lock but to no avail.

Has anyone got any idea's? Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

It could be locked. The button will push in when locked, it just won't move any of the latch mechanism. Do you have access to the boot key? Normally on these cars, there's a key for the doors and ignition and a separate key for the glove boxes and boot (To keep the valet out f your personal stuff dontchaknow).

As sdibbers said. Your boot button will still depress even when locked.
If the key slot is vertical - open . Key slot horizontal -locked.
Unless someone has had a fiddle and reassembled the barrel wrong.

Following a Porsche 928 forum I see many questions like this from new owners.
Where is the battery ? - In the rear hatch area, UNDER the space saver spare.
Where is the fuse board ? - Under the passenger toe board, behind a 19mm ply panel, held down by 2 M6 bolts. All 30-40 fuses and 20 some relays.
At least the engine is in the right place, and fluid cooled.

Key slot horizontal -locked.

I don't think this is the case on my cars - the slot always reverts to vertical.

Usually you can open doors with a variety of 'Breeden'(?) keys as they are so worn - "one key fits all!" (almost), but the boot lock is less well-used so is more difficult unfortunately. You may get lucky.

Hello everybody, thanks for your response.
When the key is turned to the horizontal position the button does not depress, this I assume is locked. when the key is in the vertical position the button is free, this I assume is unlocked. I have been A car owner since 1956 and I've never come across this.

On my 2200 SC, the slot is always vertical and springs back to that position when the key is released. The same key fits the glove boxes and the petrol filler. Turn the key clockwise to unlock and anticlockwise to lock. If the key can be depressed then it is locked.

Thanks Pete. Still no luck with it but I'll just keep trying. Thanks everybody.

As I recall rocking they boot key anti-clock locks it, rocking it clockwise unlocks it.....or was it vice versa? Easy to test.

I'll go with the button is locked if it can be depressed.

So I would try setting the key so the button cannot be depressed, then put some pressure on the button and push the boot lid down, see if the button pops in and opens.

I've tried everything that has been suggested and I am still at square one. So, I would like to invite you all round to have a go. I will provide the tea and cake. Any takers?
It might be worth spraying some WD-40 into the lock barrel. See if it loosens something inside.

The Lichfield cake and trifle society are on the way.

I've had boot buttons which go solid and won't move when locked, and also ones that depress easily, so am never actually sure which way it should be.

Bit of a long shot, there won't be much movement but just but try easing the button to one side, and then depressing it slowly. Try both sides and top and bottom. Try it both locked and unlocked.

No worries, they bring their own.

I've never had a P6 that had a boot lock which would turn to the horizontal, let alone stay there. :hmm:
Still trying everything but no luck yet. I've now discovered that the bonnet pull in the glovebox is missing grrrr.

This car has had 13 owners, I think every one of them were clowns in Billy Smart's circus.
My
If you would like to see the car look at Mathewsons March auction item 156. I only bought it to relieve the boredom after being retired for 22 years.
I sold all my classic cars over the last couple of years thinking I could live without them. A big mistake.
I doubt I will ever drive this car but it does fill a space in my garage and I can get the spanners working. My mrs thinks I'm barmy.
