How many have Radios

My car has no radio and was considering fitting one, obviously not cutting any holes for speakers just using the one on the rear shelf and front dash, how many of you have radio's fitted or is it best to just take my boys ipod, was just after something in the back ground.

I think P6's without some kind of music system fitted are well in the minority. An ipod is a good way to have one without showing you have one though.

Mine has a fairly modern stereo and speakers in the doors...

I think most have something... music like classic cars in general is good for the soul :)

Roly of this very forum was kind enough to send me some info and invoices from a car that he's dismantled which was supplied new by HH&Co. in 1974. In the sales invoice it was fitted with a Radiomobile 108SR at a cost of £86.88 & VAT @ 10%.

Petrol at the time would have been about a tenth the price it is now, how much would that make the radio at today's prices?

so about a grand i guess...

aldi are doing head units this week with no cd player which you connect your phone to with bluetooth for £30...

I've got an original Radiomobile with an ipod input and speakers in the factory holes. It looks the part and it plays whatever you want. Perfect unless you're an audiophile and are overly fussy about sound quality.

Lady C has a proper Radiomobile with a single speaker in the centre console. I've fitted a cable with a 3.5mm socket to play the ipod through.

Verity (my 3500S) has a period Hitachi radio cassette with front and rear speakers in standard fittings.

An extreme amount of money. My 2000 has a Motorola with front and back speaker in there from new. I'd imagine in today's terms it would have cost about an additional £1k to the customer.

Rover did not fit radios themselves, they were done by franchises at the dealerships. Lucrative stuff in it's day I'd imagine.

ETR "Ethel" 290L has a warranty card stamped by the dealer for the Radiomobile :) I have no doubt that the radio works but the ariel is not wired up properly. This has been the case for as long as I have owned the car. For the most part, Ethel has had portable, non-invasive bluetooth speakers which aren't all that good.

BPH970H has an 80s Sharp radio cassette player with FM and auto-reverse, no less.

My Belkin tape-3.5mm adapter doesn't seem to work and I haven't tried it with a real cassette - I'm not sure if I have any cassettes anyway. Classic FM is more than adequate for my needs.

DAB "Lil" 761H (R.I.P.) had a medium wave radio with no presets - it did work.

Lil 2.0 - still undecided.

Does anyone have an 8-track in theirs?

I have a Radiomobile 8-track in the V8. It has door speakers that were fitted back in the day and an ipod jack but the 8 track player still works. Not a great sound though.

That's cool. I remember my Dad having an 8-track in his 2000 TC :D

My particular favourite if in-car entertainment is a must would be the JVC Chameleon. Just superb in any car, old or new. When it's not in use, it just looks like a black sheet of glass.

Mine has a Sanyo 8-track (which still works!) and stereo speakers in the front doors. It is not the last word in hi-fi though.

There's never been a radio in EMF but HOT has a Radiomobile one which only picks up Radio4 and some sort of interference from the engine at 1500RPM and above.

179 was a factory car, and never had a radio fitted. Still doesn't.

180 was a factory directors' car, and had a radio fitted by the factory.
