Hi All
Just thought you'd be interested in an update of the P6 Census which the RP6C is running.
Up to yet, we have had 677 verified individual confirmations of P6's that are still alive and the break down (by country) is as follows:-
UK 570
AUSTRALIA 21
BELGIUM 1
CANADA 6
CYPRUS 2
DENMARK 1
FRANCE 2
GERMANY 1
HOLLAND 3
IRELAND 9
ITALY 3
MALTA 2
NEW ZEALAND 12
NORWAY 2
PORTUGAL 1
SPAIN 1
SWEDEN 1
SWITZERLAND 1
TASMANIA 8
USA 30

The response up to yet has been astounding and I must thank you for sending in the details but please keep them coming, because there are obviously plenty more out there.
{Please note this count is based on verified individual P6's that I have been sent the details of since we started the P6 Census and nothing has been carried forward from before then. The details which have been received, have been cross-referenced with our club databases. The sources of details includ owners, spotters and information from cars on ebay or other sales media, but all have been verified, but there must be many many more out there which we have not received upto date details of yet. All the cars listed in this extract are alive in one form or another, but most are roadworthy or being restored to the road.}

And I suppose many will be asking but how many.....???
Well this is the figures in rough
Rover P6 2000 (all variants) 241
Rover P6 2200 (All variants) 61
Rover P6 3500 (All variants) 375

The P6 Census will run at least until the DVLA relaese there 2011 figures in 2012, so these figures are only a taster of the final counts.
Please keep sending the details to me roverp6man@p6club.com at the RP6C.
Thank you

Interesting numbers

I think the final result will be somewhat inaccurate for this survey as it relies too much on active participation of owners of p6's many of whom have no idea of the existance of this or other forums and also do not belong to Rover clubs. From my own NZ experience I can say that I know of around 10 or 12 p6's in good going condition in one (may be 2 garages) with one owner and I know of a few other p6 owners also who have no internet interest or club affiliation, so just from an NZ perspective this will not be too accurate, many cars are sitting unregistered in garages up and down the country in excellent order let alone those cars that are quietly deteriorating from lack of attention.

I must say I took a long time before adding to this thread as I did not want my reply to seem to negetive as I think it is a great idea to have a good register of p6's, so I hope it does not come across as a knocking reply.

I am with Graeme on this one. It is a good effort, but for me to declare my car in order to show on the list that there is one P6 in Greece would be grossly inaccurate. If you take a look in the thread P6s in Greece that i created under the "Cars spotted" you can have an idea.

Likewise I am sure there are far more than the twelve listed for NZ. I have seen as many as five appearing at a car show in the provincial city of Hastings. Since I purchased my 3500s in 2004 I have regularly looked at the P6s listed on Trade Me and there have been a lot of them for sale or to be auctioned. There always seems to be several available at any one time and they are not the same old ones being sold over and over. The only time I have seen any reappear are those that have been priced far too high and the owners do not give up.

tend to agree more often hidden away slowly rotting or or sorn or simply not registered as been off road so long. maybe we can organise something with media such as TV programs which tend to get watched by many and word passes along to effect of an..competition win a free full rework for a rover P6 or if already in decent nick free service or upgrades ? e.g. new wheels tyres . have it shown on programs such as wheeler dealers or car SOS ? magazines etc parts suppliers .clubs etc to chip in to fund . add in a free holiday ? maybe a bit of free advertising etc form sponsors and so on . thus getting a package that anybody seeing whom knows anybody whom has an old rover tucked away ..can be persuaded to enter . all entries £2 to help cover admin and advertising.
hope fully if it can get enough funding and push form media and clubs ..it can generate self growth e.g. more it gets know about .more sponsors will want to see their name and or product associated with it. article can be written in say Classic car buyer ? have to allow maybe a full 10-12 months to get it sorted and prizes set up.
given enough oomph its can do well. possibly we can add in any funding over ? given to charity . maybe even contact palace to participate ? e.g. half of entry fee going to charity of Prince of wales choice . see if he can be persuaded to meet winner ? after all he did learn to drive in a P6 .
throw in a trip to say police car museum? they like to get good publicity too I am sure.
so lots of potential but the hard part... getting a small group together whom have access to media and other areas such as classic car clubs. fetes , shows . so it can get publicity and sponsors. more famous we get involved . more chance it has . imagine say david Beckham having a drive in one ? see a few circuit s or a short road trip driving it ? arrange for private pics and viewing areas bit like at NEC ? and you start to have a winner.
Ok so pigs might fly ..but wasn't it at least a possibility? all we need is somebody famous or with lots of dosh..er who's that guy who advertises tip for bumper waxing on TV using a blue rover P6 ? anybody else are to throw in suggestions?

I know 6 within an hour of Zürich Switzerland, one of which is now part of a classic car hire fleet. 3 are in Wetzikon in the same car park behind an independent Land Rover specialist, at least 2 of which will be recondition for the road, one is a Cameron Green V8 I see occasionally and the last one is mine. In addition there are a pair of cars that were for sale (one V8 one S1 2000). There is a green 2200TC for sale now. A few years back I saw an arden green 2000 in the city.

I'd guess around 20 over all in this small country. So I reckon those figures might be only a quarter of the true numbers, Considering the massive auction in AUS last year as well, those numbers are way, way out.
