HS8 Choke Question

I must to admit to being here to seek advice on converting HS8 carbs from the AED device to a manual choke. The carbs originally came off a Jag XJ6 with the AED but will be used on my tuned Dolomite Sprint engine. I remember working on the Rovers HS8's many years ago but cannot remember just how the choke setup works and I would like to use something similar. You guys have a lot of knowledge about the cars so I am here hoping for some help.

My question is, what bits will I need to connect a manual choke on the HS8 carbs? Looks like I will need some kind of different ends on the throttle bar so it will connect to the choke arm?

Any help or pictures of the Rover setup would be very gratefully received.

Thanks, good picture. So the part I need is that one that appears in the very top-right corner, it looks to be where the choke cables connect. Is there something that also links it to the throttle spindle so it raises the idle speed when the choke is operated?

That was the only pic I could find, and I'd need to look at a carb to refresh my memory on the fast idle, and I don't have one to hand I'm afraid.

Probably they are not much help, but i found these photos of my half dismantled ex-HS8 set up.

Demetris, thanks its all good stuff and helps me to remember how the HS8 carbs work on the Rover.
Just trying to figure out now how the fast idle works from the choke, and then I have to find a source for the parts.
Luckily its a winter project and no hurry !!

A couple of folks have helped me out and sent me some more details so I am now trying to find some SU parts.
Please see the attached photos. The first one shows the links on a carb, SU part number on the choke lever is AUD2610.

Second one shows some levers that someone made up, the parts I need are numbers 1 & 2 so I can try to modify some myself.

Does anyone have something like these going spare they would sell to me?

This is what it needs to look like ideally so you can see the choke lever and he fast idle screw underneath

Hi

I know that this is an old post, but I need the same parts, i,e, AUD 2610 and AUD 2611.I´m installing a manual choke on Jaguar XJ6 S1 (removing AED).Can someone help me?

Thanks
Paulo

I would give Burlen a phone call, some individual parts are not listed on the web site or are part of a kit. I wanted an elbow , nut and olive but couldn't find them listed, turned out they were now in a kit under a new part number.

Here ya go, got plenty of money ?
Manual choke conversion - SC Parts Group Ltd
I tried to get a choke working on a pair of HS8 carbs, but even with new jets they would not return and were sticky. The lever will pull them on OK but the weedy spring underneath will not return the jet, I imagine all sorts of probs with bore wash, epic fuel consumption etc etc.
Oh and SC parts are horrible to deal with. Hey ho

I figured out a way with a fuel cut off solenoid that allows fuel in through the old AED stubs on the top via a momentary switch, works really well.

Tank you to all of you that try to help.

SU Burlen. They don't have the parts needed anymore , AUD2610 and 2611.

Using the AED and a solenoid could be a solution. The solenoid command could be trough the contact on the choque lever i bought.

If you go this route do not activate the solenoid with any sort of switch that can stay on. You only need a one second burst of fuel to start the car, keep it running on the throttle pedal and if it exceptionally cold and it starts to die then another one second burst will do it.
I made some brass jets to fit in the AED stubs on the carbs, they need to be around 0.010" - 0.015" holes to work good.
If you put loads of fuel in you will just flood and kill the engine.
