Installing power steering pump - help!

I am trying to install my Power steering pump. I don't seem to have the right brackets and I cannot remember how it was Attached when I dismantled it 23 year ago. can someone please help me identify the parts I actually have?

My question is; Are the brackets similar for LHD and RHD cars? If that is the case I need a bracket or must try to make something that might work.

Regards, Barten

Have you got the piece with the 4 holes that the pump mounts to?
The pump mount is the same for left and right hand drive.

Yes Jim, I am missing the bracket in Your drawing and as seen in my second Picture. I don't think I have had it either. I think my PAS was retrofitted, so maybe it was improvised. I hoped someone could recognise the parts in my first Picture because I think at least the one showing the tensioning track has been used to tighten the PAS pump drive belt.

I am still puzzled about the pump installation. Can someone please show me a picture of the pump installed. That will be much appreciated.
Then I think I must get hold of the bracket Jim showed me. I will put in a wanted ad.

I have got hold of 2 of the brackets in the drawing of the pump installation. The only one I miss is 610024. Still can't install it though. Dont seem to be able to line it up so that the sheave wheel lines up with the one on the pulley. Can someone please stick a camera down in front of their engine and show me on a photo how the pump is mounted? I am getting so desperat now I am about to start cutting up and modifying the brackets I have to try to get something to fit. Mind you, I have an SD1 engine in my car, but as far as I know the pump is P6. The pump is seen in the last of the 3 Pictures.

Are you sure that pump is P6B? P5B use the same pump with a different pulley, and mounted the other way around, as does the early SD1, and if you're trying to use one of those it will never line up, and even if you do manage to line up the pulleys, the pump won't work.

All I know about the pump's origin is that it was installed when I bought it, and Power steering Box and the reservoir is definitely P6. The bad thing is that I can't remember how it looked when i dismantled it (over 20 years ago) and I cannot find any brackets in my parts stash that seem to fit either. Here are 2 Pictures of the pump. The numbers on the label says : 5504/10014/24

The offset on the pulley looks too much to me, but if someone posts a pic of the P6 installation that should confirm that, or deny it if my memory is playing tricks on me. If it is the wrong (ie P5B or SD1) pump, then you would need the P6B pulley, and then you would have to dismantle the pump and turn the vane and rollers around so that the pump works anti-clockwise.

The pressure pipe fitting on that pump is a banjo as well, which the P6B pump didn't have, it just had a fitting that screwed direct into the body.

These are some pics I took during Sparky's original strip down - I took loads of pics so I could remember where everything went 8)

Any good for you?

^^^^That's the kiddie!^^^^

Look how much less offset there is on the pulley, to all intents and purposes it's flat.

Those pictures are gold to me, thanks Quattro! From your pictures I think your pump looks different from mine. Maybe I need another pump to be able to install this properly?
Another problem I have is that the big bracket does not fit properly. I think this is due to the SD1 from cover. I may come around it by fitting some shims and widening the aft installation holes on the bracket.
Maybe the pump can be used if I got a flatter pulley. I will try to do a mock installation to compare with Quattros pictures.

Hi, I don't know what that pump is off but that back plate looks upside down, because there
is no room for the bolt to go in the captive nut. Plus it would not be partly held on by a bolt
and penny washer. To my mind that puts a lot of doubt on it's suitability, because more pumps
are driven clockwise than counter clockwise which you require.

I have tried to put the pump on approximately as it was installed on Quattros car.

The big bracket is only fastened with the 2 upper bolts on the waterpump. The 2 aft bolts on the block need modifying of the hole to match up, and the 2 lower bolts on the front cover need some kind of shimming as can be seen in the picture below.

In the picture below I have swapped around on the aft bracket of the pump (facing fwd). It still does not line up and I shall make a bracket similar to 610024 to attach the pump to the big bracket.

Colin has a valid point about the doubts of the pump. From the Pictures it seems like the dimensions are very similar to Quattros pump. So If I get hold of a flat pulley, I can most likely adapt the pump to suit. I am quite certain that it was installed on this side when I took it apart also, so it should work when installed like this. I am however checking if a flat pulley or pump with flat pulley can be obtained. I have a Parcel with differential parts going my way tomorrow.

I have now got hold of a New flat type pulley. So I will make the New bracket and use the New pulley when I get it. Could not get hold of a pump from Wins. So I will try out this solution and see if it Works ok. Thank you all for Your help! I'll post a Picture of the finished installment.
