Instruments playing up .

When I first start driving my 72 TC all the instruments and the flashers don’t work . After roughly 4 miles they all spring into life !! They then work perfectly for the rest of the day. My worry is I want to take it for an MOT but don’t want the worry of them NOT springing into life . Any ideas would be gratefully received . Thank you.

Is the high beam blue light not working either when the others aren't? I would check the earth to the cluster first if that's the case.

Hi , The Blue Light works when the instruments or the flashers are not . What does that tell you ?

It means that there’s A good ground to the binnacle and the problem is related to just the affected circuit. I would suspect that you might have another ground that’s not working or dirty. With the instruments I would also suspect the voltage regulator. I think your first thing to do is go through all of your connectors on the binnacle and clean them with some wet and dry sandpaper. Make sure all the wiring is in good condition and then try again.

Problem solved. . After many hours of one step forward and two steps back I finally tracked down the cause of all my intermittent electrical problems . It’s the fuse box . I replaced all the fuses with the right size ,made sure everything was clean and still had problems. I undid the fuse box from the bulkhead and you could cause things not to work just by moving the fuse box . New fuse box on its way ( not Rover ! ) goodbye problems .

Sorted !! Changed old fuse box for a blade type box. £6 + 2 hours labour and all my gremlins that I have fought for the past year have vanished. Every thing works as it should . I discovered the lights have been put on a separate fuse holder with 3 Relays that’s why there is only 8 wires going into the fuse box and not 12 . Happy days .
