Interior retrims..... POST YOUR PICTURES

Hi all, I'm looking to have this done next year. I've seen work of varying quality over the years. I'd appreciate if we can get together a gallery of work, including where it was done as a reference (price if you so choose to disclose this). I'm very tempted to NOT use leather and go with modern vinyl after being very impressed with the stuff in modern cars. It's more durable and less upkeep than leather and let's face it, modern leather is now a highly engineered product that while extremely nice is not at all like the stuff they used in the 1960s - mainly as many of the nasties used to tan it are banned. I'm interested in opinions on this. Research indicates that Naugahyde Soft is a nice choice - including two colours pretty close to buckskin - most jobs I've seen tend to be too "cream" or "magnolia" in tone but of course it's down to personal choice.

'Cmon guys, you paid your money, of course you'll want to show these off!

If you don't want to use leather, and the reasons that you list are indeed valid, why don't you consider a quality cloth? I am afraid that vinyl, no matter how good in quality, still has all the problems of leather (slippery, cold in winter and very hot in summer), except for the need for maintenance.

I want it to look kinda like the factory. The best seats I remember were 1980s Audi ones with very high quality velour. I wish this would come back into vogue, the recycled bottle stuff I had in a VW Jetta was not very nice at all. I think the mistake people made with fabric in general is that you need to have it wet-extraction cleaned periodically and people generally went years or decades without doing this.

My first P6 actually had Buckskin nylon boxpleat and this was much nicer than leather IMHO, which makes me a minority in the P6 community I know. It was a pain to keep clean though.

Indeed, quality does come at a cost, more so in these days.
If i was going to deviate from originality, i would consider seriously a stain resistant cloth that looks and feels like suede. Its much more practical than velour, especialy with kids in the car, and certainly not so dear like quality velour.

Not so long ago somebody over on the P6 Club fb pages posted a pic of a Swiss-registered City Grey P6 with a newly re-trimmed interior done out using a vivid orange leather, like an Hermés handbag. I think I saved the photo, and I'll try and remember to post it here when I get back to my home computer. It looked really smart indeed. I'm also looking forward to learn about people's experiences with interior trimmers, as that is the weakest part of my tired old whip, and needs rectifying soon before it disintegrates entirely!

Not a lot of pictures in this picture request thread yet :p

If not original it’s Alcantara all day for me.

If wanting to retain close to original look without real leather, UltraLeather is amazing stuff. Trimmers love it as it’s easy to work with. Has better thermal qualities than leather, easier to maintain and potentially more durable.

Whilst I daydream about being able to comprehensively re-trim my half century old interior entirely in leather, also the vinyl sections including the seat sides and the door cards, I wonder how many whole hides that would take?

That was me... I've been colleting for a while. But it's only helpful if I know who did the work....

The best job I ever saw was this (even more so than the great job above). It was done in Spain. Ignore the colour, look at the seems and piping.... The shaping and no bagginess. Appreciably better than new.IMG_2570 (Medium).JPG

Compare and contrast with the neat finish above... How not to do it... Notice the "threepenny bit" shaping on the seat nearest the camera. The folded leading edge to the center armrest (repeated on the headrest on the left). The poor fit of the back-panel further from the camera (look along the edge!). Oddly other work done by these people is excellent, must have been an off-day3494489_orig.jpg

I had these done in the late 80s as even then I couldn't get a decent set
Looks great Clive. Black of course is a fairly easy match, you need to see it side to side to spot any difference in tone. Buckskin is a PITA though, getting the right beige with the right amount of grey and not too creamy is next to impossible.

Done the interior and carpets in august last year
