I have been rather busy of late, what with undertaking a master of engineering degree across two universities, I have also written an abstract. The abstract was accepted without alteration for inclusion in the abstract book for the above conference. I will write a journal paper for publication prior to Christmas. Cover.JPGMy Abstract.JPG

That’s wonderful news. Well done. Just shows that Rover enthusiasts are amongst the brightest and most useful folks around!
Thank you Horselogger, that is very kind of you to say.

Congrats on the publication.
Reading the abstract is enough to do my head in!
What parts of NSW? Round the cotton area of Warren?
Hi Mike,

I carried out research for my master of engineering thesis, looking at both temperature and rainfall records since records began across 6 local government areas in the Central West of NSW, centred on Forbes. I specifically chose areas that presented similar topography and climatic conditions with a reasonable degree of uniformity. GMDH is a polynomial neural network that is based on what is known as the Kolmogorov algorithm. I modelled both temperature and rainfall, and whilst the temperature modelling was accurate and dependable, the rainfall modelling was not. There was great variability, so I sought to find out why. The abstract outlines what I found and the paper that I write will present how to overcome it.

Hi Ron
As our son says "timing is everything" heard on ABC news this morning that there are flood warnings for Forbes.
Have to feel for the cockies who face either drought or flood.
Hopefully your modelling will help people on the land plan for major and regular events.

Hi Mike,

The modelling that I did was within the context of stormwater infrastructure and how changes will need to be implemented to accommodate a changing climate. Pluvial flooding is a major problem in both rural and urban areas as rainfall intensity is the primary initiator. There are ways to reduce the level of impact, increasing network capacity and introducing detention basins at appropriate locations being but two.
