Is this S1 actually an S1...?!?!?!

If it has got 2200 running gear, (and we have to assume he knows the definition of "running gear") then unless there's been a lot of work done it must be a 2200 base unit because the rear suspension is different, and if that's the case it's a 2200, not a 2000.

I'd guess it was an S2 dressed up. Simply too much work that way around compared to spannering on a bonnet and grille and filling a few holes.

Now what might give a clue is the grille itself. I understand the V8 and 4 cyl are spaced differently. If it were an S2 only the V8 grille would fit unmodified, not a genuine S1 2000. the fact there is no centre badge might be a styling choice or it might be a necessity......

But you never know. The 2200 was a better car but far worse built. It's not impossible this was transplanted to a higher quality S1 shell with knackered mechanics. If I were doing that amount of work I would probably put only a little more effort into achieving a finer finish though. A mean going to all that trouble?

If I were a betting man, I'd say S2 with the disclaimer that I'm in no way insinuating anything.

Why not,we will certainly know for sure then! :)
If it is wrong, then maybe the seller knows, maybe he doesnt!! :|
You should be able to tell from the way he acts!

First registered 19.3.1965 according to DVLA, but 31.1.65 according to the vendor . Shown as 1978cc as well. Very curious, and a cynic might say that the s1 car has morphed itself into this ( or perhaps the other way round ) so as to avoid tax

Looks like an S1 with a large amount of later additions to me.

The fuel reserve pull is correct for 1965, as is the dash rail. Ignition is in the middle of the dash. If you were simply swapping log books and a few bits this would be quite difficult to accomplish.

Shame though. Needs putting back to how it was.

Jump forward from 1965 to say 1990!
Advert possibly says!
Found in an old boys lockup/grandads old car!
A 1965 P6 2000sc needing some TLC/restoration!
You buy it cheap and find the following!
It has a remarkably solid base unit!
Blown/seized 2000 engine?
Fit an upgrade and use a good 2200!
Knackered original seats?
Fit a nice ambla set found in a scrappie!
Brakes/diff knackered?
Use the later ones from the 2200!
Bodywork/bumpers mostly past its best?
Use the good set from the terminally rusty 2200,
with the good engine and nice interior from the scrappie!
I agree that if possible it should be returned to near original spec!
But finding those parts is hard, and at least it is on the road!
Its all part of the cars history,at least it is basically an early S1.
